Best Practices for Street Turning a Live Unload

Modified on Thu, 12 Jun at 9:46 AM

This article outlines the recommended steps and best practices for processing a street turn from an Import (Live Unload) to an Export. Following this workflow ensures accurate routing, clean system updates, and proper rating.

1. Starting from the Import (Live Unload) Order

  • Add a Drop leg after the Delivery leg.

Note:
The Drop status must be added before the driver initiates “Enroute to Return” or “Departed” status on the Driver App.
If the driver has already reached one of these statuses, remove or undo the driver assignment first. Then proceed with adding the Drop leg.

2. From the Drop Status

  • The Drop leg can be entered using the same location as the Delivery (Consignee).

  • Instruct the driver to refresh their mobile device and update the "Arrived at Drop" status. Alternatively, update the event manually to reflect the Arrived status at the Drop location.

3. Apply the Export to the Import Load

  • Enter the Export load number into the Import load the driver is currently working on. This ends the Delivery event.

  • Once the Export is assigned to the Import load, follow the system prompts.

4. System Prompts to Export Load

  • The system will automatically direct to the corresponding Export load.

Note:
The container number, size, and type will carry over and populate in the Export order. The Pick Up Location is also automatically filled.

5. Validate Export Routing

  • Navigate to the Routing page of the Export load.

Important:
The Pick Up Location should already be populated.
The Driver should NOT be assigned to the Export load at this point. This ensures clean processing of the street turn.

6. Assigning the Driver to the Export

  • Once the street turn has been processed from the Import, assign the same driver (if needed) to the Export.

  • Do not update any events or start the move from the Export load. Allow the driver to manage updates from the Driver App.

7. Close the Loads

  • Close the Export load (after driver confirmation and updates).

  • Ensure the Import load is closed as well after processing is completed.

8. Push the Export Dispatch to the Driver

  • From the Load Board, under the Dispatched status card, filter for Returns.

  • Push the Export dispatch to the driver via the Load Board or the Driver Planner.

9. From the Driver Planner (Pre-Dispatch Scenario)

  • If planning to pre-dispatch an Export, remove the driver from the Export before processing the street turn from the Import.

Important Notes:

  • The Import container must be at a Dropped status for the system to link and rate the loads properly.

  • The Export leg must have no driver assigned prior to the street turn process or the driver must be removed beforehand.
